Find and Correct the Cause of Trouble
After any electrical failure on ship has been corrected by Electrotechnical Officer (ETO), be sure to locate and correct the cause so the same failure will not be repeated. Further investigation may reveal other faulty components. Also be aware that although troubleshooting charts and procedures greatly help in diagnosing malfunctions, they can never be complete there are too many variations and solutions for a given problem.
Always check the easiest and obvious things first
following this simple rule will save time and trouble.
Electrotechnical Officers (ETO) need solve electrical problems consistently, must understand the basic parts of electrical circuits, how they function, and for what purpose. If you know that a particular part is not performing its job, then the cause of the malfunction must be within this part or series of parts.
