North Florida Shipyards, Inc., a family owned ship repair facility, is looking for Marine Electricians to work in conjunction with the Electric Foreman and other electricians in all aspects of shipboard electrical repairs and replacement at our both our facilities downtown Jacksonville or Mayport Naval Station, FL.
Responsibilities and Duties Include:
Working in conjunction with the Electrical Foreman:
Perform all rotor/stator inspections including slip rings and brushes for both A/C and D/C generators and motors.
Disassembly/reassembly of motors and generators.
Replace bearings for rotating electrical equipment.
Work directly from work specification sometimes with little to no supervision utilizing schematics, isometric diagrams, one line functions, block diagrams, technical manuals and NAVSEA drawings.
Fabricate and install low and high density multi-pin connectors.
Troubleshoot A/C and D/C circuits to component level.
Repair and splice cable.
Make proper disconnect sheets.
Write condition reports.
Determine specific gravity of a battery using a hydrometer.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Must possess basic knowledge and understanding of acceptable safety habits in ship repair such as adequate ventilation, eye protection, wearing hard hat, safety shoes, lighting, shock hazards, accident prevention, etc.
Ability to interface with other crafts
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
3-5 years’ shipyard experience.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Must be able to pass an extensive background screening and drug screening
Proven problem solving and decision making skills.
Must have very good interpersonal and communication skills.
Some computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
